Commissioned by the American Band College’s Technical Director Ted Burton, this is an exciting and fun arrangement of the classic dixieland song Just a Closer Walk With Thee. Written to be performed with a high school band as accompaniment, this work has many fun solos, opportunities for improvisation, a traditional dixieland band section, not to mention a difficult and rewarding solo for the career clarinetist.
Even though this work is scored for many multiple parts in each section, having all of the parts covered should not be the highest priority of this work. As always, balance to the soloist is a high priority.
