Lip Slur Challenge

This is the lip slur challenge my teacher used with me when I was taking lessons with him growing up. It made a substantial difference in my playing. In using it with my own students, I notice this: they know their partials and where the notes sit on their embouchure.

It’s really important to stress the voicing of the slur. low tongue-high tongue-low tongue. Do competitions in class to see who can get the widest mouthpiece siren. Stress to your students that this takes work…it will pay off in the long run. It took me five years to get to level 5.
