Description

High in the Elkhorn Mountains west of Baker City, Killamacue Creek winds its way through rugged country, providing the perfect setting for an especially bold and audacious bobcat. “Killamacue’s Audacious Bobcat” is a Grade 3 march for trombone and piano that captures the personality of a creature that is confident, curious, and always ready for its next adventure.

The piece opens in F minor with a dark and determined march character, introducing our bobcat as it prowls through the wilderness with purpose. The trombone gets to take center stage with bold melodies, rhythmic punches, and plenty of attitude. As the bobcat ventures farther into the mountains, the music eventually makes its way into D-flat major, bringing a brighter and more triumphant character to the adventure. The contrast between the darker opening and brighter middle section reflects the changing scenery as our bobcat explores the rugged landscape around Killamacue Creek.

Like any good mountain adventure, this bobcat isn’t interested in sitting around quietly. There are challenges to face, territory to explore, and plenty of opportunities to show off along the way. “Killamacue’s Audacious Bobcat” is a celebration of confidence, adventure, and the wild spirit of one of the Elkhorn Mountains’ most fearless residents.
