Somewhere deep in the mountains, an unsuspecting grizzly bear is enjoying the greatest nap of its life…until a squad of particularly fearless (or particularly foolish) raccoons decides that this is the perfect time to investigate the cave. What follows is *”Angry Grizzly Gallop,” a whirlwind chase set in C minor that features equal parts blazing speed, bad decisions, and one very unhappy bear. The soloist must navigate a relentless barrage of technical fireworks, sharp articulations, and enough energy to suggest that running uphill from an angry grizzly is still somehow not fast enough.
About halfway through, everything suddenly becomes unexpectedly beautiful. Why? That’s an excellent question. Maybe the grizzly pauses to admire a field of wildflowers. Maybe the raccoons stop to apologize. Maybe everyone shares a picnic and learns a valuable lesson about friendship. (They don’t.) In reality, the lyrical middle section simply offers a brief moment to catch your breath before the chase resumes with even greater determination. Variety is, after all, the spice of life—even if that life currently involves being pursued by several hundred pounds of irritated bear.
