Few sights in the Elkhorn Mountains are more impressive than a mature bull moose during the peak of the autumn rut. On a quiet morning in the meadows of Dutch Flat, an old bull grazes calmly while keeping a watchful eye over the cows nearby. Years of hard-fought battles have earned him his place at the top, but in the wilderness, nothing lasts forever. From the edge of the timber, a younger, stronger challenger steps into the meadow, determined to claim the herd for himself.
Without warning, the calm is shattered. The trumpet and piano explode into a fierce musical battle as both animals charge, clash, retreat, and attack again. Driving rhythms, powerful fanfares, and relentless technical passages capture the raw strength, speed, and unpredictability of two giants fighting for dominance. Moments of tension give way to brief pauses as each bull sizes up the other before another thunderous collision.
